What you need to know
Top Rope Climbing
- This is what most people think of when they think of rock climbing. Put simply, a climber attaches to one end of a rope and a belayer attaches to the other end. Our 50 top rope stations vary from 20 to 35 feet high. This is appropriate for any age, weight, or ability. The climber relies on the belayer to keep them safe while they climb. Belaying is not difficult and our instructors can teach anyone 14 years old or older in 20-30 minutes. We do not have staff belayers on call, however, you may RESERVE a Private Belayer TWO WEEKS in advance. We do not use an “auto belay” system in our gym. We believe in creating competent, informed, and safe climbers (and belayers) whether you climb once a year or once a week. We have experienced and skilled instructors who teach many people to safely belay each day. This does require a partner who is willing to learn, but we feel it creates a safer, more responsible climbing community.
Bouldering
- A type of climbing done without ropes. Climbers 14 years old or older may climb up to 15’ high in our bouldering area which is encircled by 12 inches of padding. No partners are required as ropes and belayers are not necessary. Spotters are recommended for first timer climbers.
